Feasibility Studies On The New Service Applications In The Satellite Based Broadband Services Markets

Original price was: $ 13.00.Current price is: $ 12.00.

Description

THE EXECUTIVE  SUMMARY

Historically   satellite   has been the most successful in distributing information over very large   geographical   areas using a single transmission. A new generation of applications needs, higher throughput requirements   and communications   demands that are changing the way satellite systems are designed, implemented and operated. New   architectures and system networking    concepts are being   implemented   to make satellite systems   capable of addressing   these   new markets demands.

From   a user’s   perspective, consumers have different service requirements   than   do corporations and small   to medium   enterprises. Service   speed, throughput capacity and connectivity are very different. Therefore it explains the need for the new service product concept of Private Live broadcasting services through satellite which brings a whole new meaning to private exclusive viewing of the content with additional benefits accrued to both the content providers and the audiences.

To be successful in any Particular market segment   the system   must   be   customized to meet    the particular   segment demands with   better service quality and reliability, lower costs, exclusivity and   commercially important contents. The PLB as a service product holds promise and it offers some unique advantages to the content providers, End users, and the broadcasting medium- Mabuhay   that are not possible through the traditional public way of broadcasting through television.

Though the service product has some weak points, still as the time progresses in the future, the weak points will get eroded in comparison to the strong points.  At the time of   writing this    MRR, the PLB service  was  launched  in  the Philippines for the  first  time in  the   month of November,2004 and its instant  success    proved  with out doubt  about its  feasibility and  the market acceptability  in the  near  future.

Already the company has bagged some more   customers in the last two months and therefore it seems that there are   potentially good profits to be generated through this service product in near future.

Satellite remains the core communications technology for the maritime industry even though it plays a secondary role to undersea    cables in the   fixed   line telecommunications industry. Ever since the first Inmarsat service was launched more than 20 years ago, rapid technological advances in maritime satellite   communications have taken place especially in the   last   decade.

Information   and satellite communications   technologies will no doubt direct the   future of maritime communications. The factors point to the possible convergence of satellite infrastructure   and an evolution in the development of applications.

In the maritime   industry mobile satellite services technology is used. This provides communications services   to and from portable satellite   terminals with sizes ranging from handheld to installations on maritime vessels and aircrafts.

Inmarsat still is the recognized leader in mobile satellite communications for the maritime industry although operators like Iridium, Thuraya and Aces   have also entered the market in recent  years. With customers becoming more demanding we will see that there is no   one size that fits all solution. In this scenario, Mabuhay would also like to enter into the maritime industry for providing complete customer focused solutions.

A ship needs access to shore based information for efficient operation. The two ways   process needs innovative   applications for truly integrated transactions involving the Internet and mobile satellite communications. These two modes of communication will be the key foundation   for applications development in the near future.

CHAPTER-1

 RATIONALE

Mabuhay is the   monopoly satellite operator in the country and therefore it is the   leading service   provider of most of the broadcasting and telecommunications services in the    country. In the last five years the profits and the revenues of the company are not growing significantly, as all the sectors has dried up. Therefore the company is looking for the new growth opportunities in the latest   satellite broadband based services like the private live broadcasting in the broadcasting markets of the Philippines. This service product is the latest   tech service offerings and has been modestly accepted in to market after its successful   launch in the month of November.

OBJECTIVES

  • To develop a feasibility report in order to identify an opportunity, which has the best potentials in today’s broadcasting, based services.
  • To Identify and Evaluate the potential   business opportunities in the latest broadcasting applications of the satellite based broadband services markets.
  • To recommend a feasible opportunity cum solution which has the best future growth prospects.

SCOPE:

The scope will cover an analysis of the external environment and the broadcasting industry in the Philippines.

LIMITATIONS

The MRR is limited to the broadcasting services   domain in the Eastern part of Asia including the whole of Philippines. The MRR does not takes  into view of the  best of the solutions  provided  by the  alternative  competitive  service technologies.
